Meet Your AI Friend — Kids Ship Their First Build With a Safe AI Coach

Explorer · Ages 7–10Kit mission (coming later) · Needs a FoundrKids Kit1–2 hour build + app sessions FoundrKids Kits: coming later

Meet Your AI Friend is the FoundrKids Kit mission that gives kids ages 7 to 10 a safe first AI experience: it arrives in their first FoundrKids Kit, and your child builds something real while learning what an AI coach is, and what it isn’t. Guided by Spark, they practice the loop every good builder uses with AI (ask, try, check, iterate) and ship their first artifact to their portfolio.

FoundrKids Kits: coming later. This is a Kit mission, built around a physical FoundrKids Kit. Kits aren’t shipping yet; today FoundrKids is an app subscription, and Studio missions are built entirely in the app with Spark.

The project: what your child actually does

A Explorer mission, guided by Spark from first idea to shipped artifact.

  1. 1

    Unbox the first FoundrKids Kit

The box arrives, and it isn’t a toy — it’s parts, a mission, and a challenge with your child’s name on it. First job: lay everything out and see what they’re working with.

  2. 2

    Say hello to Spark

In the BuilderOS app, your child meets Spark, their AI coach — not an open chatbot, but a coach with one job: this mission. The first conversation starts where every good collaboration starts: what are we building?

  3. 3

Learn what an AI coach is — and isn’t

Before the build gets serious, your child learns the ground rules. Spark asks questions and helps them think; it doesn’t do the work, hand over answers, or wander off topic. Who’s in charge of this project? They are.

  4. 4

Build with their hands, think with Spark

The real build begins. When something won’t fit or won’t work, your child brings the problem to Spark: describe what’s happening, get a question back, try a fix. Real parts on the table, a coach in their corner.

  5. 5

Run the loop: ask, try, check, iterate

Spark never just gives the answer — it asks what your child tried, what happened, and what they’d change. Somewhere mid-build, the loop clicks and they start running it themselves. That’s the moment this mission exists for.

  6. 6

    Ship it to the portfolio

The finished build — and the story of the questions and fixes that got it there — is saved to your child’s portfolio. Mission one, artifact one: proof they can work with AI, not just watch it.

What it secretly teaches

Ask, try, check, iterate.

Most kids meet AI with no guardrails and no coaching: an open chatbot, a homework shortcut, an algorithm deciding what they see next. Meet Your AI Friend is built to be the opposite — a safe first AI experience for kids, where your child learns what an AI coach is good for, when to double-check it, and who’s in charge (they are). Spark keeps the conversation on the mission, and every conversation is one you can read, anytime.

The habit underneath is the working rhythm of everyone who uses AI well: ask a clear question, try it, check the result, iterate. Kids who start there treat AI as a tool they direct — not an oracle they obey, and not a friend that does the work for them. That framing, formed in the very first mission, shapes every mission that comes after it.

What ends up in the portfolio

A finished first build — and the story of how it got made

Your child’s completed FoundrKids Kit project, saved to their portfolio with the questions they asked and the fixes they made along the way: entry one in a body of work that grows every month.

Questions parents ask about Meet Your AI Friend

What does my child actually make in Meet Your AI Friend?

Their first real build: the project inside their first FoundrKids Kit, completed with coaching from Spark and saved to their FoundrKids portfolio along with the questions and fixes that got it there.

Does Meet Your AI Friend require a box?

Yes. Meet Your AI Friend is a Kit mission: it’s built around a physical FoundrKids Kit, and FoundrKids Kits are coming later. The build happens with real parts in hand, with Spark coaching alongside in the FoundrKids app.

What age is Meet Your AI Friend for, and is it live now?

It’s built for the Explorer tier, ages 7–10. FoundrKids Kits are coming later; once they arrive, expect a 1–2 hour build plus shorter app sessions with Spark spread across the month.
